Italian Culture & Delights
During the 15th century, Florence experienced economic and cultural growth that transformed the medieval city into the cradle of the Renaissance. The Uffizi Museum is perfect for understanding the development of art, from the first medieval Madonnas to the incredible profusion of colour and movement of the Renaissance.
You will learn about medieval symbolism by looking at Madonnas painted by Cimabue and Giotto. You will listen to the stories of the greatest artists of the early 1400s, such as Masaccio and Lippi, and you will then see the moment when Botticelli shifted his subjects from Madonnas to pagan gods, thus becoming one of the most representative artists of the new artistic movement called Humanism.
Then we will dive into paintings by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo’s revolutionary Tondo Doni, a masterpiece of the Renaissance.
