Catacombs & Early Christian Art

Price

€700 Private driver included

Duration

4 hours

Travel back to the origins of Christian art and faith in Rome. Our journey begins in the Catacombs of Rome, where the first Christians painted the earliest images of Christ, including the symbolic Good Shepherd, giving birth to Christian iconography.

From these hidden underground galleries, we continue to Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the city’s oldest churches, where shimmering mosaics from the 5th century bring to life the stories of the Old and New Testament and the figure of the Virgin Mary. We conclude at the layered Basilica of San Clemente, where centuries of architecture and decoration unfold one beneath the other. A journey through the places that still preserve the earliest visual expressions of Christianity.
